Connect safely to the D1 service network.
From the correct adapter to the first connection: this guide explains the hardware, IPv4 setup and permissions required on iPhone, iPad and compatible Macs.
What you need.
The connection is local and wired. Internet access is not required.
Compatible device
iPhone or iPad running iOS/iPadOS 17 or later, or a Mac with Apple silicon.
Suitable Ethernet path
USB-C adapter, Lightning adapter chain or the Ethernet interface of a Mac.
Network cable
A working Ethernet cable for the local service network.
Authorised access
Access to the approved D1 service network and its network details.
iPhone or iPad with USB-C
Use a USB-C to Ethernet adapter or a USB-C dock with an Ethernet port.
iPhone or iPad with Lightning
Use a powered Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter and a compatible USB-A Ethernet adapter.
MacBook or Mac with Apple silicon
Use built-in Ethernet or a USB-C Ethernet adapter. The app runs as “Designed for iPad”.
Four components. One direct connection.
The Ethernet cable connects the approved service network to the adapter or directly to the Mac, providing D1 Toolbox with a wired network interface.
Connect the Ethernet side first, then connect the adapter to the device. With Lightning, also power the USB 3 Camera Adapter. Link LEDs help confirm the physical connection.
Configure the network correctly.
Connect the appropriate adapter path
Connect USB-C devices directly through an Ethernet adapter. For Lightning, use a powered USB 3 Camera Adapter and a compatible USB-A Ethernet adapter. A Mac can use Ethernet directly or through USB-C.
Assign an unused IPv4 address
Configure an unused address in the same subnet as the target system for the Ethernet interface. Never reuse a DOM address.
Allow Local Network access
Confirm the system prompt on first access. The permission can later be reviewed under “Privacy & Security → Local Network”.
Select the correct project and DOM
Open the correct building or project first. Identical IP addresses across separate projects must never be mixed.
Verify identity before live actions
Compare the IP address, project assignment and detected device identity before connecting, retrieving data or sending service commands.
Apple documents USB Ethernet for USB-C devices and through the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter. Approved iPad apps can run as “Designed for iPad” on Macs with Apple silicon. D1 Toolbox requires iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. USB-C accessories · Lightning and Ethernet · Designed for iPad on Mac · Local Network
If a connection cannot be established.
The DOM is not found during scanning
Check the adapter link LED, the mobile device IPv4 address and subnet mask, and confirm that scan range and target address match. A scan never assigns a device to an unrelated project automatically.
“A valid IPv4 address is required” appears
Review the address stored for the selected DOM. It must contain four valid numeric blocks and belong to the active project. Remove spaces or additional text.
The adapter shows no network connection
Test the cable, adapter and switch port separately. For USB-C docks, also check power. A known-good Ethernet cable quickly rules out a cable fault.
The app still cannot reach the local network
Check D1 Toolbox under “Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network”. If routes compete, Wi-Fi may be disconnected temporarily, but only where iOS selects the wrong route.
The same IP address exists in several projects
This is normal in D1 installations because the same address ranges may be used in different buildings. D1 Toolbox therefore assigns a discovered DOM to the currently selected project and additionally verifies its device identity.
Learn the app without risk.
Explore without a system
Demo mode presents projects, DOMs, lines and service workflows using fictional data only.
Use system data offline
Import VCF files and open previously retrieved data without an active DOM connection.
Report issues effectively
Include app version, device, operating system and exact steps, without confidential customer data.
Technical question or beta issue?
Include app version, device, iOS/iPadOS version and the steps leading to the issue. Remove confidential system and customer data first.
D1 Toolbox does not replace manufacturer documentation, training, approval or mandatory testing. Changes and service commands must only be performed on authorised systems with suitable safeguards.
